What is the CyberTitan Competition?

CyberTitan is one of Canada’s largest cyber defense competitions. The competition places teams of high school and middle school students in Canadian real world situations. The students are in the position of newly hired IT professionals. In the rounds of competition, teams are given a set of virtual images that represent operating systems and are tasked with finding cybersecurity vulnerabilities within the images and hardening the system while maintaining critical services in a nine-hour period. From October to February teams, take part in the CyberPatriot competition and compete worldwide with other high school and middle school teams. The top 10 ranked Canadian Teams receive a trip to Ottawa to go head to head for the coveted title of CyberTitan National Champions.

How It Works

The competition challenges teams of high school and middle school students to find and fix cybersecurity vulnerabilities in virtual operating systems. Using a proprietary competition system, teams are scored on how secure they make the system. All rounds of competition, with the exception of the National Finals, take place online from schools, organizations, and libraries on specified weekends throughout the school year.

Team Members/Organization

CyberTitan is open to all schools and approved youth organizations. Each CyberTitan team requires a coach, usually a teacher or adult leader of a team-sponsoring organization. Coaches do not need to be computer experts. In fact, any teacher or responsible adult leader can effectively lead a team to a fun and successful competition!
