New Initiative for Educators – Professional Development Opportunity
Cyber security skills are becoming ever more necessary as vulnerabilities and threats impact businesses and individuals. As a result, in 2016, ICTC launched CyberTitan, a national cyber defence competition for Canada, in partnership with the US Air Force Association’s CyberPatriot to encourage STEM, ICT and cyber learning and help youth build foundational cyber security skills that they will need in the workforce and in their personal lives.
Key to student learning and skills development are our educators. They also need the tools, resources, and skills development opportunities to help prepare their students to build these increasingly essential skills.
To help educators enhance their knowledge and “in-demand” skills so they can integrate their learning into classrooms, ICTC would like to introduce a new initiative called CyberEd, a National Cyber Security Awareness & Training Initiative. This initiative has been made possible in part by a grant from the Cisco Networking Academy, an advised fund of Silicon Valley Community Foundation.
A part of this initiative, 130 educators will have the opportunity to receive training in Cisco’s Introduction to Cyber Security and/or Cyber Security Essentials courses at no cost, with resources included to help them integrate cyber security into student learning.
Additionally, 8 existing CCNA instructors will be have the opportunity to be trained in CCNA Sec at no cost to be able to offer this to students interested in deepening their information security studies.
These professional development opportunities will take place virtually. The courses will be facilitated/led by an instructor, while some elements of the course material will also be self-directed.
The courses will take place between March – June 2018.
The application process will be live in December 2017.
If you are interested in finding out more information or reserving your name in advance to receive the application once it is available, please contact us at cybertitan@ictc-ctic[dot]ca.
